The accident which claimed the lives of three men off the coast of Florida has been revealed. Apparently, the boat's anchor got stuck and Bleakley suggested Cooper use the boats engine to pry it loose. When he did so, the boat went under and capsized.
It is sobering news to what was already a tragedy. If you have ever been boating before, the cable anchors aren't easy to cut loose. Not only because they are expensive, but because the cable is so strong, you'd have to have cable cutters on board.
It isn't easy to pry a stuck anchor. After all, anchors aren't supposed to come unstuck. Giving the cable some extra slack, then slowly moving to a position opposite your drift and trying again to hoist the anchor often does the trick, but we don't know how badly the anchor was stuck and in what manner they tried to unstick it prior to using the boat motor.
It is sad to hear that there was a good chance the accident could have been avoided.
