Who is Paul Hackett?

First in a series exploring the 2009 Oakland Raiders coaching staff.

So who is this guy that is coaching young JaMarcus Russell and is he any good?

You may know a little about Paul Hackett’s infamous tenure as USC Head Coach. Obviously in college football, recruiting is half the battle. So lets looks at his performance as coach related to team success in his coaching areas. Specifically offenses and QBs.

5.6 YP/A Rank: 32
QBs: Chris Simms 3 Games, Bruce Gradkowski 10.5, Tim Rattay 2.5
Editorial Note: We don’t want Gradkowski to play.

2007 QB Coach Tampa Bay Bucs
210 YPG Rank: 16
64.5% Completions Rank: 6
7.3 YP/A Rank: 8
QBs: Jeff Garcia 13 Games*, Bruce Gradkowski 1 game, Luke McCown 4 games
*1 Playoff Game

Hackett has been primarily successful when he has had offensive weapons and a decent QB. When his primary QB is sidelined his offenses and passing game have struggled. He has managed to keep his offenses and passing game respectable outside of the 2006 Bruce Gradkowski experiment.
